Biden co-launches Global Methane Pledge at COP26 committing 100+ nations to 30% methane cut by 2030

At the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, Scotland, President Biden co-launches the Global Methane Pledge with the European Union, rallying more than 100 nations to commit to a 30% reduction in methane emissions by 2030 compared to 2020 levels. Methane is a greenhouse gas roughly 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide over a 20-year period. Biden had apologized to world leaders at COP26 for Trump's withdrawal from the Paris Agreement. The pledge is widely seen as one of the most concrete near-term climate commitments to emerge from the Glasgow summit, though major methane-producing nations including Russia, China, and India do not sign.
