Trump Signs EO 14159, Ordering Maximum Interior Enforcement and 287(g) Surge
President Trump signed Executive Order 14159, "Protecting the American People Against Invasion," on January 20, 2025, reinstating maximum interior immigration enforcement and directing ICE to authorize state and local law enforcement under Section 287(g) to the maximum extent permitted by law. By February 13, 2025, ICE reported 1,412 active 287(g) agreements — more than 1,130 signed in 2025 alone, compared to 45 in all of 2019. By May 2026 the total reached 1,864 agreements across 39 states, and DHS reported training over 10,000 officers under the program.
