Trump orders NCAA to cap eligibility at five years and restrict transfers by August 1

President Trump signed an executive order directing the NCAA to establish a five-year athletic eligibility window, limit players to one transfer with immediate eligibility, and restrict NIL deals deemed above fair market value — all by August 1, 2026. Schools generating at least $20 million in athletics revenue that fail to comply risk losing federal grants and contracts. The order, titled "Protecting the Future of College Sports Before It's Too Late," also created a national student-athlete registry.
