Iran Announces Uranium Enrichment to 60 Percent After JCPOA Collapse

Iran's Atomic Energy Organization announced on April 17, 2021, that it had begun enriching uranium to 60 percent purity at the Natanz facility, a level just below the 90 percent required for weapons-grade material. The announcement came after an explosion at Natanz sabotaged centrifuges in what Iran attributed to Israel. IAEA monitors confirmed Iran's stockpile had grown large enough that, if further enriched to 90 percent, it could yield material for multiple nuclear devices.
