Mamdani elected NYC mayor, first Muslim and South Asian to hold office

Zohran Mamdani won the New York City mayoral general election on November 4, 2025, receiving approximately 50.4% of the vote against Andrew Cuomo's 41.6% and Curtis Sliwa's 7.1%. Mamdani became the first Muslim and South Asian person elected mayor of New York City and the youngest mayor since 1892. South Asian voter turnout reached 43% in 2025, up from 15% in 2021.
