Trump withdraws the US from the JCPOA and reimposes Iran sanctions

President Trump announced US withdrawal from the JCPOA on May 8, 2018, calling it the worst deal ever negotiated and signing National Security Presidential Memorandum 11 to reimpose sanctions. The first tranche targeting Iran's automotive sector and metals trade was reimposed on August 6, 2018, with full oil and banking sanctions following November 5. European allies announced they would remain in the deal, but secondary sanctions threatened any company doing business with Iran.
