Trump commutes GPB Capital CEO David Gentile's 7-year fraud sentence after 12 days

President Trump commuted the 7-year prison sentence of David Gentile, founder of GPB Capital Holdings, just 12 days after he reported to federal prison. Gentile had been convicted of conspiracy to commit securities fraud and wire fraud in a scheme that defrauded over 17,000 investors — including 4,000 seniors — of more than $1 billion. The White House claimed the government failed to tie fraudulent representations directly to Gentile at trial. Democratic senators demanded an explanation.
