OIDO releases first annual report: 5 deaths, nearly 6,000 complaints, systemic medical failures
OIDO published its first annual report to Congress in May 2022, covering 2021 activities and documenting five detainee deaths, nearly 6,000 complaints reviewed by case managers, and systemic failures in medical treatment and living conditions. The report found that 52 percent of complaints concerned quality-of-life and living conditions, with medical treatment as the next largest category. OIDO had established a persistent presence at detention facilities nationwide, providing the first independent complaint record in ICE detention history.
