FTC Issues Civil Investigative Demand to Media Matters

The Federal Trade Commission under Chair Andrew Ferguson issued a civil investigative demand to Media Matters for America in 2025, demanding documents as part of a purported investigation into an advertising boycott of Elon Musk's X platform. Media Matters had published a 2023 report documenting major brand advertisements appearing next to extremist content on X, prompting an advertiser exodus. The nonprofit argued the demand was retaliation for its journalism and filed suit to block it.
