Lebanon Cabinet Welcomes Army Plan to Disarm Hezbollah

The Lebanese cabinet formally endorsed the Lebanese Armed Forces' plan to extend state authority over southern Lebanon and begin a process of disarming Hezbollah, fulfilling a key demand of the November 2024 ceasefire agreement with Israel. No enforcement timeline or disarmament deadline was set, and Hezbollah representatives in parliament opposed the plan. The U.S. and France, who helped broker the ceasefire, welcomed the cabinet decision.
