White House releases Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights

The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) releases the Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights — a five-principle framework establishing that Americans should be protected from abusive AI systems. The principles cover safe and effective systems, algorithmic discrimination protections, data privacy, notice and explanation of AI decisions, and the right to opt out of automated systems. The document is non-binding but represents the first comprehensive federal articulation of AI rights. OSTP Director Alondra Nelson leads the effort. "People in America are already experiencing the consequences of automated systems," the document states, "deployed without adequate protections."
