Biden launches American Climate Corps enlists young workers in climate action

President Biden signs an executive order establishing the American Climate Corps, a new federal program modeled on FDR's Civilian Conservation Corps that enlists young Americans in climate-related public service work including installing solar panels, restoring habitats, and preventing wildfires. The program is launched after Congress failed to pass the American Climate Corps Act. The administration sets a first-year goal of 20,000 participants, with 50,000 added each year by 2031. On Earth Day 2024, Biden officially launches the corps' website and job listings at Prince William Forest Park, with 2,000 jobs available and over 42,000 people expressing initial interest.
