Trump Terminates Somali TPS Protections "Immediately" for Minnesota's Somali Community

President Trump announced on Truth Social he was "immediately" terminating Temporary Protected Status for Somali migrants in Minnesota, calling the state "a hub of fraudulent money laundering activity." Only 705 Somalis nationwide held active TPS status (430 in Minnesota) — most of Minnesota's large Somali community are US citizens or permanent residents. Legal experts questioned whether TPS can be terminated state-by-state. DHS still listed Somalia's TPS as valid through March 17, 2026.
