Hochul signs $268.5B New York budget banning local ICE detention agreements and 287(g) contracts statewide
Governor Kathy Hochul signed New York's $268.5 billion FY2027 budget, which included provisions explicitly prohibiting local governments and law enforcement agencies from entering ICE detention agreements or 287(g) immigration enforcement contracts. The ban applied to all 62 New York counties and every municipality in the state. New York became the largest state by population to legislate a statewide prohibition on 287(g) agreements.
