Denmark Announces $2 Billion Arctic Defense Package

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced an initial $2 billion Arctic defense package covering additional naval vessels and surveillance drones for Greenland. The package was the first concrete military response to Trump's January 7 annexation threat and preceded Denmark's larger $4.26 billion Arctic commitment announced in October 2025. Frederiksen said Denmark would defend Greenland's sovereignty "with all means at our disposal."
