House Republicans impeach DHS Secretary Mayorkas over border policy
The Republican-led House of Representatives impeaches Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas by a narrow 214-213 vote, the narrowest impeachment margin in history and only the second Cabinet secretary impeached in nearly 150 years. Republicans accuse Mayorkas of willfully and systematically refusing to enforce immigration laws and breaching public trust by allegedly lying to Congress about border security. Three Republicans vote against impeachment. The Senate is expected to receive the articles but is unlikely to convict. Democrats call the impeachment baseless and politically motivated.
