EU unanimously designates Iran's Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization

The European Union's Foreign Affairs Council unanimously agreed on January 29, 2026 to add Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to the EU terrorist list, after years of resistance from France, Spain, and Luxembourg. Italy's Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani formally proposed the designation three days before the vote; France and Spain shifted their positions to support. The formal Council decision was adopted February 19, freezing IRGC-linked EU assets and prohibiting EU residents from providing funds to the organization.
