Senate opens hearings into 1996 campaign-finance scandal

On July 8, 1997, the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee opened public hearings into fundraising abuses from the 1996 elections. The inquiry focused on foreign money, soft money and access to President Bill Clinton and the Democratic National Committee.
