DOJ Indicts Rep. Cherfilus-McCormick on FEMA Fraud and Money Laundering Charges
The Justice Department indicted Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) on 15 counts in November 2025, alleging she stole approximately $5 million in FEMA COVID vaccination contract overpayments through her family health care company and laundered the funds through straw donors back into her 2022 congressional campaign. Prosecutors alleged she and a campaign staffer funneled money to friends and relatives who donated it back as their own personal contributions, violating campaign finance law and federal theft statutes.
