US and P5+1 reach interim Iran nuclear deal Joint Plan of Action in Geneva

Iran and the P5+1 countries, the US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany, announce the Joint Plan of Action (JPOA) in Geneva, Switzerland. Iran agrees to pause enrichment above 5% and dilute its stockpile of 20%-enriched uranium in exchange for limited sanctions relief worth approximately $7 billion. The deal sets a 6-month window for final negotiations on a comprehensive agreement. Secretary Kerry and Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif meet face-to-face, the first high-level US-Iran diplomatic contact since 1979.
