Trump signs Executive Order 14309 to implement the U.S.-UK economic prosperity deal

President Trump signed Executive Order 14309 on June 16, 2025, formally implementing the general terms of the US-UK Economic Prosperity Deal announced on May 8. The order reduced tariffs on up to 100,000 UK vehicles annually from 27.5 percent to 10 percent and directed the Commerce Secretary to establish a tariff-rate quota exempting specified UK steel and aluminum from Section 232 tariffs, contingent on UK supply chain security compliance. Implementation of the beef and ethanol quota measures took effect on June 30, 2025. The executive order, rather than congressional legislation, served as the sole legal mechanism for implementing a bilateral trade arrangement affecting billions of dollars in annual trade.
