Trump signs EO 13768 restoring broad immigration enforcement priorities

President Trump signed Executive Order 13768, titled Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States, on January 25, 2017, five days after taking office. The order revoked Obama-era enforcement priorities and expanded the class of deportable immigrants to include anyone charged but not convicted of a crime, anyone who abused public benefits, or anyone who posed a vague risk to public safety. The order directed DHS to expand 287(g) agreements to the maximum extent permitted by law and threatened to cut federal grants to sanctuary jurisdictions.
