Tom Homan, former ICE director and paid GEO Group consultant, is named Trump's border czar before taking any official role

Tom Homan, who had served as acting ICE director under Trump's first term and then became a paid consultant to The GEO Group between 2021 and 2024, was named by President-elect Trump as 'border czar' in November 2024 — a title outside the normal Senate confirmation process. Homan's paid consultancy with GEO Group while publicly advocating for expanded immigration detention created a direct financial relationship between a future government official and the largest private detention contractor. GEO Group's stock rose 25 percent the week Homan was named.
