Proud Boys attack counter-protesters at Washington DC Stop the Steal rally, 4 stabbed, 33 arrested
At the second "Million MAGA March" in Washington DC on December 12, 2020, Proud Boys members — emboldened by Trump's "stand back and stand by" order at the September debate — attacked counter-protesters in what DC officials described as targeted violence. Four people were stabbed and 33 were arrested. Proud Boys members tore down and burned Black Lives Matter banners in front of two historic Black churches, including Asbury United Methodist Church. DC Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee stated that the Proud Boys "sparrked the violence" during the pro-Trump rally. The violence came as Trump continued promoting "Stop the Steal" lies about the 2020 election, three weeks before the January 6 insurrection.
