IRS whistleblowers testify Hunter Biden received preferential treatment blown plea deal collapses
Two IRS whistleblowers, supervisory special agent Gary Shapley and agent Joseph Ziegler, testify before the House Ways and Means Committee that DOJ officials blocked U.S. Attorney David Weiss from bringing charges against Hunter Biden in multiple districts, ran out the statute of limitations on key counts, and removed the IRS investigative team from the case after they raised concerns. The same week, Hunter Biden's plea deal on misdemeanor tax charges and a gun diversion agreement collapses in federal court when Judge Maryellen Noreika refuses to accept it, questioning whether the gun charge immunity was a proper diversion. Biden is later appointed special counsel to take over the case.
