Biden releases National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism naming white supremacy
The Biden administration releases the first-ever National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism, explicitly naming white supremacists, neo-Nazis, militia violent extremists, and racially-motivated violent extremists as the most persistent and lethal domestic terror threat facing the US. The strategy was developed in response to the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack, the 2019 El Paso mass shooting, and a string of racially-motivated attacks. It directs the NSC, FBI, DHS, and intelligence community to share information more effectively, support deradicalization programs, and counter violent extremist recruitment online. The strategy represents a significant shift from the Trump-era focus on Islamic extremism.
