Vance Tours Ancestral Appalachian Home Region of Pikeville, Kentucky

Vice President JD Vance toured Pikeville, Kentucky on April 12, 2025, visiting coal mining operations in the Appalachian region where his grandparents were raised and that he described in his memoir Hillbilly Elegy. The visit was part of the administration's effort to demonstrate that energy and tariff policies were benefiting economically left-behind coal country communities; Pike County is one of the poorest counties in the United States.
