Massachusetts high court bars detention on civil ICE detainers in Lunn v. Commonwealth

The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruled that state law gives officers no authority to hold a person past their release date solely on a federal civil immigration detainer. The decision became the legal foundation for why ICE later made at-large arrests in Massachusetts rather than jail handoffs.
