Ecuadorians Reject Foreign Military Bases in Defeat for US-Backed President Noboa

Ecuadorian voters rejected a referendum allowing foreign military bases by nearly two-thirds (64%) in a major setback for President Daniel Noboa, a key US ally. The Trump administration had assumed Ecuadorians would endorse the measure, which Noboa argued was necessary for fighting drug cartels. Voters also rejected a constitutional rewrite and cuts to the legislature.
