Trump signs executive order attacking birthright citizenship

President Trump signed an executive order on Inauguration Day directing federal agencies to refuse to recognize birthright citizenship for children born in the United States to parents who are undocumented immigrants or on temporary visas. The order claimed the Fourteenth Amendment does not require birthright citizenship in such cases, directly contradicting over a century of Supreme Court precedent. Federal judges in four states issued emergency injunctions blocking the order within days.
