U.S. withdraws from 66 international organizations including UN climate treaty
President Trump signed an executive order on January 7, 2026 withdrawing the United States from 66 international organizations, agencies, and commissions. The list includes 31 UN entities and 35 non-UN bodies. Most significantly, the U.S. withdrew from the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)—the 1992 treaty ratified by the Senate and the foundation for the Paris Agreement—making the U.S. the first and only nation to exit the UNFCCC. The order also withdrew from IPCC and dozens of bodies covering labor, human rights, and development.
