Reagan budget proposes eliminating Job Corps

President Reagan submitted his fiscal year 1986 budget on February 4, 1985 proposing to eliminate Job Corps entirely, calling the program too expensive at $617 million per year. Office of Management and Budget Director David Stockman led the elimination push. A bipartisan Congress rejected the proposal and ultimately raised Job Corps appropriations to $716 million by the end of Reagan's second term.
