UN General Assembly adopts Partition Plan Resolution 181

The U.N. General Assembly adopted Resolution 181, recommending partition of Mandatory Palestine into Jewish and Arab states with a special international regime for Jerusalem. Jewish leaders accepted the framework; Arab leaders rejected it, arguing it violated the rights of Palestine's Arab majority.
