Trump Expands Travel Ban to 39 Countries, Effective January 1, 2026

President Trump signed a December 2025 proclamation expanding the U.S. travel ban to 39 countries plus Palestinian Authority travel document holders. Full entry restrictions apply to 19 countries including Afghanistan, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen. Partial restrictions (immigrant and some nonimmigrant visas) apply to 20 more, including Nigeria, Senegal, and Tanzania. The ban took effect at 12:01 AM ET on January 1, 2026, affecting nationals outside the U.S. without valid prior visas.
