Trump Signs Nine Immigration Executive Orders on Inauguration Day

On his first day of his second term, President Trump signed executive orders declaring a national emergency at the southern border, ending catch and release, directing military deployment to the border, and attempting to end birthright citizenship for children of undocumented parents. Courts immediately blocked the birthright citizenship order as unconstitutional under the Fourteenth Amendment. The orders also authorized use of the Alien Enemies Act, reinstated Remain in Mexico, and shut down the CBP One app that had allowed legal entry appointments.
