Vance Swears In Jon Husted as Ohio's New U.S. Senator

Vice President JD Vance administered the oath of office to Jon Husted as Ohio's new U.S. senator on Jan. 21, 2025. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine appointed Husted, then Ohio's lieutenant governor, to fill Vance's vacated Senate seat; under the 17th Amendment, governors fill Senate vacancies by appointment until a special election. Husted's swearing-in gave Republicans a 53rd Senate seat in the 119th Congress.
