Anthropic Donates Model Context Protocol to Linux Foundation's Agentic AI Foundation

Anthropic donated its Model Context Protocol (MCP) — a standard allowing AI models to connect with external tools and data sources — to the newly formed Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) under the Linux Foundation. Co-founded by Anthropic, OpenAI, and Block, with support from Google, Microsoft, AWS, and Cloudflare, the AAIF ensures vendor-neutral governance for AI agent interoperability. MCP had reached 97 million monthly SDK downloads and 10,000 active servers in its first year.
