Trump signs EO 13769 banning travel from seven Muslim-majority countries and suspending refugee admissions

President Trump signed Executive Order 13769, which suspended entry for nationals of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen for 90 days, halted the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program for 120 days, and reduced the FY2017 refugee ceiling from 110,000 to 50,000. Federal courts in Washington and Massachusetts blocked the order within days; the Ninth Circuit upheld the injunction on February 9. The administration issued revised EO 13780 (March 6, 2017) dropping Iraq and removing the blanket Syrian ban; courts again enjoined it. A third version, Presidential Proclamation 9645, replaced both orders and survived to the Supreme Court.
