In his first major address as Secretary of State, Pompeo outlined 12 demands Iran must meet for sanctions relief. These include ending all enrichment, giving IAEA unqualified access, ending ballistic missile proliferation, ceasing support for Hezbollah/Hamas/Houthis, withdrawing forces from Syria, releasing all US citizens and hostages, ceasing proxy activities, and more. He stated "We will track down Iranian operatives and their Hezbollah proxies operating around the world and crush them." Critics called the conditions impossible to meet, a "recipe for war."
