Trump Withdraws United States from Paris Climate Agreement
President Trump signed an executive order on Inauguration Day directing the State Department to formally notify the United Nations of the United States withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement, the second U.S. withdrawal from the accord after Trump's first-term exit in 2017. Under the Paris Agreement's terms, the withdrawal takes effect one year after notification. The U.S. had been responsible for approximately 14% of global greenhouse gas emissions at the time of withdrawal.
