Latinas for Trump cofounder warns Miller's immigration tactics will cost GOP midterms

Florida state Sen. Ileana Garcia, cofounder of Latinas for Trump, publicly warned on January 27, 2026, that Republicans would lose the 2026 midterm elections because of White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller. Garcia told The New York Times she supported closing the border but blamed Miller for creating a culture of fear through draconian immigration enforcement tactics. Her comments came after federal agents in Minneapolis shot and killed two people, including 37-year-old Alex Pretti, during protests against immigration operations.
