Trump supporters attack Capitol to stop electoral certification
After President Trump told a rally crowd to "fight like hell" outside the White House, thousands marched to the Capitol and breached the building during the joint session counting electoral votes. Members of Congress and Vice President Pence evacuated; certification resumed that night and ended at 3:42 a.m. on January 7. Five people died within 36 hours of the attack, including Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick, and more than 140 officers were injured.
