a16z Managing Partner Kupor Confirmed as OPM Director; CFPB Probes of Andreessen-Backed Firms Stall

Scott Kupor, managing partner of Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) for 16 years, was sworn in as Director of the Office of Personnel Management on July 14, 2025, after Marc Andreessen donated more than $5 million to pro-Trump groups in 2024 and volunteered to help Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency. Kupor announced plans to eliminate 300,000 federal jobs. ProPublica reported that since the election, most Consumer Financial Protection Bureau investigations had stalled, including three probes into Andreessen-backed companies; a16z had seeded eight companies since 2016 that landed in CFPB crosshairs.
