Florida bans race-related workplace and school training concepts in Stop WOKE Act

Florida enacts the Individual Freedom Act, widely known as the Stop WOKE Act, in 2022 after Governor Ron DeSantis promotes restrictions on instruction and workplace training about race, privilege, and discrimination. The law limits certain teachings in schools and employer trainings. Supporters describe the law as protecting students and workers from compelled ideological instruction. Civil rights groups, educators, and businesses challenge parts of the law as viewpoint discrimination that restricts discussion of systemic racism. The law becomes one of the most prominent state efforts to restrict how institutions teach or discuss racism and inequality.
