Wisconsin charges James Troupis in the false-elector conspiracy case

Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul announced a criminal complaint charging James Troupis, Trump's 2020 Wisconsin campaign attorney, with conspiring to utter as genuine a forged writing tied to the state's 2020 unappointed-elector certificate. The DOJ release said the complaint alleged a plan to present a certificate of electoral votes from people who were not Wisconsin's duly appointed electors. Wisconsin prosecutors later added 10 more felony counts, and a Dane County judge rejected dismissal motions in August 2025. Current posture: a Dane County judge found probable cause in December 2025 for the criminal trial to go forward. The charges remain allegations, and James Troupis is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
