Janet Mills suspends her Senate campaign, clearing the field for Platner

Gov. Janet Mills suspended her U.S. Senate campaign, saying she lacked the financial resources to keep competing. Polls had her trailing oyster farmer Graham Platner by as much as 30 points, and Platner had outspent her roughly $4.8 million to $1.5 million. Party leaders called Platner the presumptive Democratic nominee against Sen. Susan Collins.
