Federal authorities arrested Mario Mares, then 49, of Ballinger, Texas, in a Jan. 6 Capitol breach case. The case involved entering and remaining in restricted grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm on Capitol grounds, and disorderly conduct. NPR records that Mares was later found guilty at a bench trial and that the court granted dismissal with prejudice on March 4, 2025. NPR's public Jan. 6 archive was checked against the linked U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia record before insertion.
