Longest U.S. government shutdown ends after 35 days with military paid but 800,000 civilian workers unpaid

The 35-day partial government shutdown ended on January 25, 2019, when President Donald Trump signed a continuing resolution reopening the government without border wall funding. Military personnel received pay throughout the shutdown because DOD had secured its annual appropriations before the lapse began. About 380,000 federal workers were furloughed and 420,000 were forced to work without pay, costing the economy at least $11 billion including $3 billion in permanent losses.
