NRC issues Standard Design Approval for NuScale 77-MWe US460 — second NuScale design approved

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued Standard Design Approval (SDA) for NuScale Power's US460 reactor design (77 megawatts electric, 250 megawatts thermal) under NRC press release No. 25-033. The final safety evaluation report was issued May 28, 2025. NRC Chair David Wright presided over the approval. The 22-month review was completed two months ahead of schedule. The SDA is a staff determination under 10 CFR Part 52 Subpart E that the design meets applicable safety requirements; it is not a construction permit. No U.S. site has filed a Combined License for any NuScale design.
