OPM data breach exposes 22 million Americans' records

Hackers attributed to the Chinese government stole personnel records and security clearance background checks for approximately 22 million Americans from OPM systems. The breach, first disclosed on June 4, 2015, remains one of the largest US government data breaches in history. Stolen data included Social Security numbers, fingerprints, and detailed personal histories. The same agency is now proposing to collect identifiable medical records for 8 million people.
